Pair of Torah finials. Fez (Fes), Morocco, after 1925.
Silver, pierced and engraved (marked with Moroccan quality marks, in use from October 1925 onward, with the letter "F" for Fez).
Each finial is surmounted by a large, elegant crown-like ornament, from the top of which slender curving rods extend; from these rods, chains with bells at their ends are suspended. The finial bodies are rounded, with the upper segment pierced with vegetal patterns, and the lower portion engraved with vegetal patterns. The lower portion has suspension hooks shaped like flowers or birds, intended for suspended bells. Bodies supported on cylindrical shafts, tapering upward, in turn supported on dome-shaped bases.
Height: 37 cm. Maximal width: 11 cm. Overall good condition. Most chains and bells missing. Loose attachments to bird-shaped suspension hooks; one suspension hook missing.

Pair of Torah finials. [Morocco, early decades of the 20th century].
Silver-plated brass, cast, pierced, repoussé, and engraved.
Especially tall pair of Torah finials, with hexagonal bodies, each surmounted by a dome-like ornament. Each side of each body decorated in openwork, pierced with vegetal patterns and with two horseshoe arches, with the lower one tapering to a point at the top. Six decoratively designed suspension hooks, from which chains with bells at their ends are suspended, are positioned at different heights along the corners of the bodies. Supported on tall cylindrical shafts, adorned with spiraling lines.
Height: 41 cm. Maximal width: 12 cm. Overall good condition. Minor fractures and warping. Several suspension hooks slightly bent out of shape.

Sheet silver, repoussé and engraved (unmarked); chased.
Tall, slender hexagonal bodies, adorned with vegetal motifs characteristic of North African craftmanship. Dedicatory inscriptions are engraved within pointed horseshoe-arch frames, pertaining to Avraham Ben Hamou.
Each finial is topped with chains bearing bells.
Height: 36 cm. Max. width: 6.5 cm. Overall good condition. One chain missing. Minor bends, small blemishes and old soldering repairs.

Pair of Torah finials. [North Africa, possibly Algeria, early 20th century].
Silver, cast, pierced, and engraved (apparently unmarked).
Torah finials with tall, slim, hexagonal bodies tapering upward toward a pointy upper tip. Bodies surmounted by shallow domes from which tall, conical ornaments project upward. Supported on tall, cylindrical shafts, slightly widening downward toward bases. Adorned with pierced vegetal patterns. Each side of the body is ornamented with a "window" in shape of horseshoe arch. Each finial is set with six large, delicate hooks, from which lengthy chains dangle, with bells suspended from their ends.
Height: 45.5 cm. Maximal width: 10.5 cm. Overall good condition. Slight warping and minor fractures. Old soldering repairs. Slight corrosion.

Pair of Torah finials. [North Africa, possibly Algeria, early 20th century].
Silver, cast, pierced, and engraved (apparently unmarked).
Squarish, tower-shaped bodies, tapering upward toward apices. Each side with three arch-shaped windows, and with hangers for bells. At bases, dome-shaped ornaments bearing leafy patterns, and at tops, narrower dome-shaped caps with shingle-roof patterns. Supported on tall, cylindrical shafts widening downward toward bases that broaden laterally. The bases are circular, with undulating perimeters. Dedicatory inscriptions (Hebrew) engraved on shafts: "To the ascent of the soul of Mordechai Amram…"
Six chains with bells at their ends dangle from each finial.
Height: 38 cm. Maximal width: 7 cm. Overall good condition. Slight warping and minor fractures. Thirteen bells missing. Several loose joints.

Pair of Torah finials. [Probably North Africa (Algeria?), early 20th century].
Cast silver (marked with unidentified marks reminiscent of marks from Portugal and Spain from the late 19th and early 20th centuries); repoussé silver sheet; plastic beads.
Torah finials with hexagonal bodies, tall and slender, adorned with vegetal patterns characteristic of North Africa. Each finial is surmounted by a conical cap, similarly hexagonal, in turn surmounted by an ornament apparently influenced in style by Islamic art. Chains, with red plastic beads (that function somewhat like bells) at their ends, are suspended from the boundary lines between body and cap. Supported on plain cylindrical shafts.
Height: 36 cm. Width: 6 cm. Fair-good condition. Warping and old soldering repairs. Missing suspension rings and chains. The base of one finial has been exchanged and is therefore undecorated (shaft may have also been exchanged). Fracture to one of the upper ornaments.

Pair of Torah Finials. [North Africa, Tunisia or Libya, late 19th or early 20th century].
Silver, cast and engraved (unmarked).
Torah finials exhibiting design influences derived from Italian tower-shaped Torah finials, and adorned with cast appliqués also deriving influences from sacred Italian objects of Judaica.
Each Torah finial is surmounted by a dome topped by a small bud-shaped ornament. The body of each finial consists of two hexagonal tiers. Each side is adorned in vegetal patterns, and bears a cast appliqué at center, in one of seven variations. Large, potato-shaped bases to bodies, adorned in vegetal patterns, surmounting long cylindrical shafts supported on broad dome-shaped bases. Dedicatory inscriptions (Hebrew, almost identical) engraved on both shafts: "Dedicated to the Lord, to the rest of the woman, Madam / Gizella née Salameh may she rest in Eden / Gift of David Salameh and his wife ...".

Height: 48 cm. Maximal width: 10 cm. Overall good condition. Slight warping. Piece missing from vegetal ornament surmounting one finial. Some of the appliqués placed upside-down. One appliqué missing, and exchanged with crescent-and-star ornament. One finial with six suspended pendants, while other finial with no original pendants, but with more recent chains with round, Tunisian-style pendants at their ends, instead.

Pair of finials for a Torah scroll or synagogue dais. [Libya or Tunisia, early 20th century].
Wood, turned, carved, and painted.
Finials with broad cylindrical bodies, and with niches carved in the shape of arched windows. Each finial surmounted by a cap modeled after a vegetal subject, in turn surmounted by a roughly spherical ornament. Coated with a thick coat of paint, tinted gold, copper, red, and green.
Height: 37 cm. Width: 8 cm. Overall good condition. Minor fractures. Abrasions and missing bits of paint.

Pair of Torah finials. Yemen, possibly Aden, [late 19th or early 20th century].
Silver, cast, repoussé, punched, and engraved (unmarked).
Each finial body consists of a pair of flattened spheres, positioned one on top of the other, with the upper sphere smaller than the bottom. Upper sphere surmounted by a small pyramidal ornament encircled by a ring of small silver spheres. Bodies adorned in rich vegetal patterns, and with six-point stars resembling Stars of David, and with crown-like ornaments. Supported on tall, polygonal shafts, upon which biblical verses (Hebrew, from Psalms 19) are engraved. Each body with 21 suspended chains, with bells at their ends.
Height: 23 cm. Width: 8 cm. Overall good condition. Warping. One finial with soldering repairs to attachment between the two spheres, and between bottom sphere and shaft.

Pair of Torah Finials. [Yemen, late 19th or early 20th century].
Silver sheet, repoussé and engraved.
Torah finials, slim and tall, bearing distinctive Yemenite features, but made of silver (whereas the majority of finials of this type are made of brass). With four distinctive, bulging ornaments: two of them conical, toward the top, and between them a small, spherical ornament, in addition to a large spherical ornament between the central and bottom shafts of the finials.
Biblical verses (Psalms 19:8-11) are engraved on the central shaft. In addition, a dedicatory inscription (Hebrew) is engraved on the bottom shaft of one finial:
"Daoud ibn Yussef / Tiari [?] …"

Pair of Torah finials. [India, possibly Bombay (today Mumbai), early 20th century.
Cast silver (unmarked).
Small, heavy, pear-shaped Torah finials, surmounted by spherical ornaments. Supported on thick, stout shafts, each adorned with two thick rings. Eight rings attached to body of each finial; long chains, with bells at their ends, are suspended from each of these rings.
Height: 14 cm, 15.5 cm. Maximal width: 7.5 cm. Overall good condition. Slight warping. One ring flattened inward toward the body of the finial.

Pair of Torah finials. [Far East, probably India, late 19th century].
Silver, cast and engraved (unmarked).
Small Torah finials shaped like flattened spheres, surmounted by small, tapering dome-shaped ornaments. Throughout the surfaces of the finials are decorative elements apparently representing the image of lotus leaves. These surfaces are decorated with vegetal themes in rich, dense detail, penetrating tiny slits and minute points. Bodies supported on stout cylindrical shafts, tapering upward, and similarly decorated. Five chains with bells at their ends are suspended from each of the finial bodies.
Height: 14 cm. Maximal width: 7 cm. Overall good condition. Slight warping.
