Pair of Torah Finials. [North Africa, Tunisia or Libya, late 19th or early 20th century].
Silver, cast and engraved (unmarked).
Torah finials exhibiting design influences derived from Italian tower-shaped Torah finials, and adorned with cast appliqués also deriving influences from sacred Italian objects of Judaica.
Each Torah finial is surmounted by a dome topped by a small bud-shaped ornament. The body of each finial consists of two hexagonal tiers. Each side is adorned in vegetal patterns, and bears a cast appliqué at center, in one of seven variations. Large, potato-shaped bases to bodies, adorned in vegetal patterns, surmounting long cylindrical shafts supported on broad dome-shaped bases. Dedicatory inscriptions (Hebrew, almost identical) engraved on both shafts: "Dedicated to the Lord, to the rest of the woman, Madam / Gizella née Salameh may she rest in Eden / Gift of David Salameh and his wife ...".

Height: 48 cm. Maximal width: 10 cm. Overall good condition. Slight warping. Piece missing from vegetal ornament surmounting one finial. Some of the appliqués placed upside-down. One appliqué missing, and exchanged with crescent-and-star ornament. One finial with six suspended pendants, while other finial with no original pendants, but with more recent chains with round, Tunisian-style pendants at their ends, instead.
