Opening: $400
Sold for: $1,125

Pair of Torah finials. [Probably North Africa (Algeria?), early 20th century].
Cast silver (marked with unidentified marks reminiscent of marks from Portugal and Spain from the late 19th and early 20th centuries); repoussé silver sheet; plastic beads.
Torah finials with hexagonal bodies, tall and slender, adorned with vegetal patterns characteristic of North Africa. Each finial is surmounted by a conical cap, similarly hexagonal, in turn surmounted by an ornament apparently influenced in style by Islamic art. Chains, with red plastic beads (that function somewhat like bells) at their ends, are suspended from the boundary lines between body and cap. Supported on plain cylindrical shafts.

Height: 36 cm. Width: 6 cm. Fair-good condition. Warping and old soldering repairs. Missing suspension rings and chains. The base of one finial has been exchanged and is therefore undecorated (shaft may have also been exchanged). Fracture to one of the upper ornaments.
