Ierusalem qualis (ut plurimum) extitit aetate Solomonis – Hand-colored engraved map. [London: John Williams, 1650].
Imaginary bird’s-eye view of Jerusalem, depicting the city as it ostensibly appeared in the days of King Solomon. Oriented to the north, with the Temple at center, featuring a symbolic entrance through the Golden Gate. Outside the city walls, the hill of Calvary (Golgotha) is shown.
At the right of the map appears the author’s dedication: Thomas Fuller’s tribute to Edward Montagu (1616-1684), son of the Baron, who had sheltered Fuller during illness and supported the education of his son.
The map was issued with Thomas Fuller's "A Pisgah-Sight of Palestine and the confines thereof" (London, 1650; following p. 308).

Bird’s-eye view of Jerusalem during the Second Temple period, with the Temple prominently depicted at center and Herod’s palace to the north. In the lower right corner, the anointing of Solomon as king is illustrated.
From a series of six biblical maps created by Nicolas Visscher ca. 1643, based on the map by Johann and Heinrich Stern (Leipzig, 1630).
This English version was translated and engraved by British cartographer and printer Joseph Moxon, and issued with an explanatory booklet (Sacred Geographie or Scriptural Mapps, London, 1671).
At left, within a cartouche, appears a dedication to John Pearson (1613-1686), Lord Bishop of Chester.

Imaginary map of Jerusalem, based on the 1604 reconstruction by Jesuit scholar Juan Bautista Villalpando. The Temple Mount is depicted raised on massive substructures, alongside the royal palace ("Davids Citty"), city streets, walls, and other buildings.
Surrounding the central map, within a broad decorative border, are additional vignettes: a Renaissance-style façade of the Temple rendered as a European palace, Temple implements (menorah, altars, table), the High Priest, King Solomon in Eastern attire, and more.
A dedication from Richard Blome to John LLynwell of Brecknock appears inside a coat of arms at the lower margin.

Folding map mounted on linen and bound in cardboard covers.
Pierotti arrived in Jerusalem in 1854, after being appointed as consultant for restoration works on the Temple Mount. He took part in various building projects in the city and was soon appointed City Engineer of Jerusalem. This position granted him access to sites generally closed to Western scholars, foremost among them the Temple Mount and its mosques.
Inscription in Arabic on the linen, with a large illustration of a bird of prey grasping a serpent in its beak.
Approx. 97X64.5 cm. Folding map, mounted on linen. Overall good condition. Stains and minor blemishes. Wear and stains to binding.
