Pair of Torah finials. Tunisia, probably Djerba. [Late 19th or early 20th century].

Silver, cast, filigree (unmarked); gilt; color enamel.

A tall and narrow pair of finials, in the characteristic style of Djerba, set with enamel decorations colored blue, green, orange and yellow. Central stem with two spherical decorations and a top ornament half spherical and half conical, decorated with silver threads (filigree) and piercings. Lengthy chains ending in pendants, descending from two top ornaments. Two flattened hexagonal silver beads separate the ornaments, and the stem is surmounted with a clover-shaped screw designed in Islamic style. Short cylindrical legs, with wide bases.

Height: 46 cm. Width: 6 cm. Weight: 860 cm. Overall good condition. Some fractures, warping and old soldering repairs. One pendant lacking. Three pendants differently shaped. One pendant has shorter chain. The finials may have originally been produced without the enamel decorations, which would have been added at a later stage.
