Spicebox. [Probably Lwów, 1810-1824].
Cast silver (flag marked with fineness mark from Lwów, in use 1810-1824); filigree.
Spicebox in form of a small but bulky tower, with cast silver ornaments intermixed with delicate filigree ornaments. The spice container is cubic, with a square pillar at each of its four corners. In front is a door with a locking mechanism. The door is attached by a hinge.
Above the spice container is a tapering steeple, surmounted by a sphere, and a flagpole with a flag, and above this, a bird-shaped ornament.
Spicebox supported by a tall shaft consisting of four silver, twisting, branch-like rods, with a snake-shaped ornament wound around the waist. Square base decorated in a geometric pattern.
Height: 20.5 cm. Width of base: 4.5 cm. Good condition. Minor fractures and old soldering repairs. Steeple loosely connected.
