Decorated parchment ketubah. Mantua, Italy, 4th Kislev 5514 [November 30, 1753].

Ketubah on rectangular parchment sheet, entirely decorated in micrography composed of verses from Shir HaShirim, written alternately in three colors. At the top of the ketubah is a decoration shaped as a large crown, with two ribbons with verses of blessing on the sides. Signatures of witnesses on edges: Gur Aryeh son of Binyamin Finzi and Aharon son of Yosef Baruch Cases the physician (rabbis of Mantua).
46X41 cm. Fair condition. Stains, some dark, affecting text and decorations. Open tears, mainly to bottom margins, professionally restored.

Decorated parchment ketubah, for the wedding of Yaakov son of Moshe Chai Curiel and Rachel daughter of Kalonymus Nuveira. Venice, Italy, 8th Adar 5519 [March 7, 1759].
Ink and paint on parchment.
Ketubah on large rectangular parchment sheet, with upper edges cut into an arch shape. Th text is written in two columns: to the right appears the ketubah text in square script, and to the left appears the Tenaim text in Sephardic semi-cursive script. At edge of ketubah text and of Tenaim appears the signature of the groom (in Latin characters) and the witnesses Simchah son of Avraham Calimani [Venetian rabbi, grammarian, playwright and poet] and David Chai son of Avraham Shanah Tovah.
The decorated frame is divided into two parts, richly decorated and illustrated with images, patterns and verses, as well as the coat of arms of the bride's family (Nuveira; also spelled: Noveira, Novera, Nojera or Navarro).
57X80 cm. Fair-good condition. Old stains and dampstains, affecting text and decorations. Few pinholes. Tears, including some open tears (to margins and bottom right corner), slightly affecting illustrations, professionally restored.

Ketubah on rectangular parchment sheet, with upper edges cut into a decorative pattern. Upper third decorated with many illustrations including a large fruit tree, smaller trees, flowers of various kinds, houses, birds of various species, a jug and a dog; bottom two thirds decorated with architectural pattern.
The signatures of the groom and his father (as guarantor) in Latin characters, and signatures of witnesses (including R. "Avraham son of R. Yitzchak Pacifico" – a yeshiva dean of Venice).

Decorated parchment ketubah, for the wedding of David son of Yedidiah Chaim Bondì and Esther daughter of Avraham Shmuel Modigliano [Modigliani]. Rome, Italy, 13th Adar 5572 [February 26, 1812].
Ink and paint on parchment.
Ketubah on a large rectangular sheet of parchment, with bottom margins cut in the shape of a reversed pointed archway, characteristic of ketubot from Rome. The text of the ketubah appears in the center in square letters, with the signatures of the witnesses below: Yitzchak son of Yaakov Citone and Moshe Yitzchak son of Mordechai Elisha Castelnuovo. Between the first and second line, the word "seventy" is added to the date in smaller letters. The space for the name of the notary is left blank.
Decorated with colorful flower illustrations and repeating vegetal patterns, incorporating verses of blessing. The floral decorations and verses of blessing are separated by tens of micrographic arches incorporating more blessings (Sheva Berachot and more) and psalms.
The top of the ketubah features two illustrations on Biblical themes alluding to the names of the bride and groom: to the right King Ahasuerus extends his scepter to Esther, and to the left David holds Goliath's head. Between the two illustrations is a decorated cartouche with the Bondì family coat of arms – the groom's family – a rooster gazing at the sun; on the bottom margins is another cartouche, set between two cornucopias, with the Modigliano (Modigliani) family coat of arms – the bride's family – a rooster standing atop a three-peaked mountain, holding a branch, with a crescent to the left and a star to the right.
51.5X93 cm. Overall good condition. Creases and some stains. Light damage to decorations, mainly on margins. Old tears and damage to margins of parchment sheet, professionally restored. Two slits to edge of bottom corner.

Ketubah on rectangular parchment sheet. The text of the ketubah appears on the bottom half, in square letters, with the signatures of witnesses below: Refael Pinchas Bachi and David Tzion (on right) and the groom (on bottom). The ketubah also mentions a civil document notarized on February 13 by "a Christian notary scribe".
The text of the ketubah is framed in a rectangular arch, above which are two angels blowing horns and holding a banner reading "and good luck" (the beginning of the blessing, "With an auspicious sign", appears higher up). The frame is decorated with a symmetrical arrangement including a repeating pattern of leaf and flower decorations.
44X60 cm. Overall good condition. Stains, mainly to margins, only slightly affecting text and decorations. Folding marks.

Ketubah on large rectangular parchment sheet, with upper edges cut into a stylized arch topped by a pointed decoration. Decorated with symmetrical pattern comprising meticulous, colorful illustrations in vegetal patterns, ribbons and curtains, and two miniatures with pastoral landscapes (landscapes such as these are uncommon in ketubot from Senigallia). The ketubah states that both bride and groom are from Rome, and came to Senigallia for the fair, and also mentions an official document made in Rome. The edges of the ketubah feature signatures of the groom and witnesses.
55.5X77.5 cm. Overall good condition. Moisture damage to edges of top and bottom thirds, slightly affecting illustrations. Some stains.

Ketubah on large parchment sheet, with upper edges cut into a decorative pattern. Decorated with colorful illustrations and gold and silver colors, in patterns appearing in earlier ketubot from the Veneto region from the late 17th and 18th centuries. The ketubah is topped by a pair of angels blowing horns, flanking the coat of arms of the Trieste family – a crowned crane holding a stalk of grain in its beak. Under the coat of arms appear three allegorical illustrations: an artist figure with the caption "Artiesi" [arts], agricultural tools and a Staff of Hermes. Featured below is a golden sun with a human face, with verses from Tehillim incorporated between its rays. Between the geometrical and vegetal guilloches are incorporated four more allegorical illustrations depicting the four seasons. A pair of large pillars stand at the right and left margins, topped by two more symbolic illustrations and decorations across the margins, incorporating verses of blessing.
The ketubah text also mentions an Italian document made the previous day. At the edge of the ketubah text are signatures of witnesses and groom.
45.5X61 cm. Overall good condition. Clear and neat parchment. Pencil marks made by the artist are discernible in some places. Light stains and some creases.

Ketubah on a decorated rectangular paper sheet decorated with three massive pillars topped by colorful curtains, with matching flower arrangements at their bottom. The text is divided into two, as customary in Sephardic communities: the ketubah text to the right, and the Tenaim to the left. Below both columns are signatures of the groom and witnesses, including R. Tzvi Hirsch Oppenheim, Rabbi of Timișoara. The bottom right corner features the signature of the artist: "Moritz Bellenfanti, [1]842".

Ketubah on paper sheet with upper edges cut into a double arch shape, around a sharp-shaped protrusion. Ketubah and Tenaim text (in Sephardic cursive script) appear in the center, within a frame decorated with colorful vegetal patterns, designed as an arched structure topped by a large, pointed dome. Large flowerpots with floral arrangements flank the dome on both sides. The signature of the groom and witnesses appear on the edges of the ketubah text.
Approx. 39X54 cm. Overall good condition. Old folds and stains, with tears across folds and upper decoration – professionally restored, slightly affecting text and decorations. Handwritten inscription, in ink, on verso.
