Pair of Torah finials. [Ottoman Empire, possibly Syria, 19th century.
Cast silver; silver sheet, repoussé (unmarked).
Pair of Torah finials of a type in use in the Ottoman Empire (Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Greece, and other places): the upper parts of the body are dome-shaped, tapering to a point at the top, while the middle parts of the body are in form of flattened spheres, adorned with arches and vegetal patterns, and with rings for chains and bells.
Surmounting each finial is a cast ornament bearing a vegetal pattern. Supported on tall, slim cylindrical shafts tapering upward from a broad, flower-shaped base.

Height: 27 cm. Maximal width: 9 cm. Fair-good condition. Minor warping and fractures. Loose connection of uppermost ornament in one finial. One chain ring missing. No chains or bells.
