Pair of Torah finials. [Morocco], dedicatory inscription dated 5646 [1886].
Silver, pierced, repoussé, and engraved (unmarked).
Torah finials inspired by earlier European counterparts, as hexagonal three-tiered architectonic towers, in openwork. Each tier is adorned with arches, "bricks, " and vegetal patterns, and has a Gothic-style tapering arched gate that bears a suspension ring for a bell. In addition, suspension rings for chains and bells are positioned at the corners of the bases of the towers. Each finial is surmounted by a tall bell-shaped dome topped with a small vegetal-styled ornament. Supported on cylindrical shafts with outspread bases, adorned in vegetal patterns. An identical dedicatory inscription (Hebrew) is engraved on both shafts: "Dedicated [‘made holy’] to the Almighty, to the rest of the late Ya’akov ben Margi / may he rest in Eden Year 5646 [1886] / may his soul be bound in the bond of life".
Height: 35 cm. Width: 12 cm. Fair condition. Significant warping. Fractures and soldering repairs. Most chains and bells missing. Suspension rings missing.
