Esther scroll housed in a decorated case. [Unknown provenance, 20th century].
Ink on parchment; silver, filigree (unmarked); varnished wood.
Esther scroll in miniature format, written on 19 sheets of parchment sewn together, 68 columns of text, 11 lines per column. Different types of "tagim" over different designated letters, respectively. A long parchment tie is sewn onto the leading edge of the first sheet (more recent).
Scroll wound around a very small silver handle resembling the Atzei Chaim of Sephardi Torah cases. Housed inside a silver-thread (filigree) case apparently modeled after Sephardi Torah cases. Case supported on round wooden base.
Height of parchment sheets: 4 cm. Good condition. Spots of faded ink, and corrections to text. Height of handle: 6 cm. Height of case: 10.5 cm. Good condition. Minor warping and fractures. One or two arches missing from top crown.
