Handwritten notebook, statutes of the Saadat Bachurim society of Amsterdam. [Amsterdam, 19th century]. Hebrew and Yiddish.
The Saadat Bachurim society was established by R. Shaul, Rabbi of Amsterdam, in 1760, supporting poor students of the Etz Chaim yeshiva in Amsterdam (established by his father R. Aryeh Leib). The society worked with the Beit Midrash to shape the Ashkenazic Torah center of Amsterdam (this institution later developed into the Nederlands Israëlietisch Seminarium).
The manuscript contains a copying of various regulations and statutes detailing obligations of rabbis and students.
Inscriptions of names of students (Hebrew and Dutch) on leaf 2, and of the administration on leaf 8.
On last leaf (first leaf in left-to-right direction), beginning of a copying of the statutes of the Nederlands Israëlietisch Seminarium (which developed from Saadat Bachurim).
[11] written leaves (and many blank leaves). 22 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains. Wear and minor tears. Original color cardboard binding, detached, with defects.
