Order of Maamadot in silver binding. Venice, Italy, first half of 18th century.
Silver, repoussé, engraved and soldered (Venice hallmark [Lion of St. Mark], assayer's mark "M.P" and maker's mark "C.L.", for Carlo Lipari, active 1712-1740, or Carlo Lonigi, active 1720-1740); coiled silver thread; print on paper.
Elaborate binding dating to the first half of the 18th century, decorated identically on both sides, with rich vegetal patterns in rococo style, and a central cartouche topped by a crown, in high relief. Family coat of arms in the cartouche on the front binding (two six-pointed stars separated by a diagonal line), and initials "L.G.S." in cartouche on back.

Maamadot. [Venice: Bragadin] 1719. Maamadot printed with divisional title page. Year in colophon. [229], 230-336 leaves, 1.5 cm. Overall good condition. Stains and wear. Slight tears, professionally restored. Somewhat close trimming of some margins. New parchment binding, with original endpapers and blank leaves bound at end.
Height of binding: 11 cm. Width: 6.5 cm. Thickness: 2.5 cm. Good condition. Minor warping. Clasps may be non-original.
