"Mizrach" plaque. [Probably Central Europe, 19th or early 20th century].
Colored silk-thread embroidery over perforated cardboard; watercolor on paper.
Rectangular "Mizrach" plaque. Toward the top, the Hebrew inscription "Mizrach" ("East") embroidered in gold silk thread, and at center, a depiction of King David playing the harp at the foot of – and in between – a pair of palms, all embroidered in colored silk thread. The embroidery is combined with several pieces of paper pasted on; King David’s head, hands, and foot are hand-painted in watercolor on small paper cutouts.

Height: 25 cm. Width: 20.5 cm. Overall good condition. Slight fading and minor blemishes. Framed in original wooden frame, 31.5X27 cm, with few fractures and missing pieces. Not examined outside frame.
