Beaded chain with amulet case (probably for a child). Hebron, [first decades of 20th century].
Silver; niello; gemstones; glass beads.
Beaded chain composed of 40 beads of various sizes and materials – stone, glass, silver, shell, and the like – with, at center, a rectangular silver amulet case decorated in niello. Includes original amulet, written on paper (folded). Center of amulet case inlaid with red glass bead decorated with star and crescent. Two Russian coins dangle from bottom of case. One of the beads in the chain is engraved with the image of a scorpion – an amuletic device meant to prevent stings from scorpions and bites from various reptiles.
25X5.5 cm. Amulet case cover detached. Minor blemishes. Missing coin. Paper amulet worn and blemished.
