Tzedakah box. Germany, 18th century.
Iron sheet; tin; brass.
Tzedakah box with handle and lid, stylized as a pitcher. The box itself is made of iron, with an attached decorated plate supported by two lions on both sides. Center of plate inscribed "Tzedakah Bikur Cholim" [?]. Remains of a hinge on one side of lid, with a clasp on the other side. Fenced slit for inserting coins at center of lid.
Height: 19 cm. Diameter: 13.5 cm. Fair-poor condition. Body of box rusty. Lid detached (hinge lacking). Part of handle lacking. Inscription blurred. Fractures and warping.
