Torah shield, made by “Posen”. Frankfurt am Main, dedicatory inscription, dated 1887.
Silver, repoussé and engraved (marked with maker’s mark: POSEN, and German fineness marks).
Center of shield features a pair of lions supporting the Tablets of the Law (with the Ten Commandments), surrounded by scrollwork ornament and flame-shaped borders. Rectangular slot at bottom of the shield for interchangeable plaques (empty), above which is a German dedicatory inscription:
"Zur Erinnerung an die glückliche Wiedergenesung meiner I. Frau Cécile Simon nach Schwerer Krankheit! / Josef Simon / Frkft.a.M.19.11.87".

Two bells suspended at the bottom.
Height: 26 cm. Width: 25 cm. Overall good condition. Lacking suspension chain and interchangeable plaques. Apparently missing a ring and bell at center of the shield's bottom edge.
