Torah shield. [Probably Hanau], Germany. Dedicatory inscription from Frankfurt am Main, 1914.
Silver, repoussé, embossed and engraved (with German standard mark – 800, crown and moon – and maker's mark, "WW/H", inside a heart-shaped frame, probably Weinranck Wilhelm, Hanau, engraved with digit "5".
Elegant shield decorated with flower arrangements, flower vases and a pair of tall pillars. In the center is an embossed flame-like decoration with the Tablets of the Law fastened with a screw (engraved with the Ten Commandments), held by a pair of erect lions donning crowns.
At the top edges is a rectangular compartment for replacement plaques (without plaques). At bottom edge, engraved dedicatory inscription: "Geschenk der Jüdischen Gemeinde / zu Frankfurt am Main / 24.5.14" (=Gift of the Jewish Community, Frankfurt am Main). Three hanging bells from bottom edge. Long chain for hanging.

Height: 28 cm. Maximum width: 23.5 cm. Overall good condition. Some warping and minute fractures.
