Torah shield. Tuscany, Italy (perhaps Florence or Livorno). Dedicatory inscription dated 1837.

Silver, sawed, pierced and engraved (marked with year of production "1837" and maker's mark "O/pini", apparently Onorato Pini); brass; velvet; cotton thread and string of gilt thread.

Small, elegant decorative Torah shield, designed as a concave medallion surrounded by decorations in vegetal patterns, topped by a large crown-like decoration with a waving ribbon decoration at bottom. In center, "First Scroll" engraved in letters sawed from a thick silver plate. On bottom decoration, dedicatory inscription:
"Donation of the elder R. Yitzchak son of R. Shmuel Gallico, 1837".

Shield screwed onto an oval velvet-covered brass sheet and surrounded by a light gold-colored ribbon. On verso, edges of screws and nuts visible, topped by a long hook for hanging.

Height: 12.5 cm. Width: 15 cm. Overall good condition. Some wear and unraveling to fabric.
