Torah shield. Dedication from Iași, Moldova (today Romania), 5630 [1870].
Silver, repoussé, stamped and engraved (unmarked).
At the center appear the Tablets of the Law (engraved with the Ten Commandments) within a decorated cartouche, flanked by a pair of rampant, hissing lions. Affixed Below the tablets is an opening for a rotating plaque (lacking) with names of festivals and Torah portions, and above the tablets – a crown. The border is adorned with vegetal motifs and two architectural columns. At the base appears a double-headed eagle (emblem of the Russian Empire), with a convex medallion on its chest engraved with a dedication by

Height: 25 cm. Width: 20.5 cm. Overall good condition. Minor bends and breaks. Chain and rotating plaque missing. Traces of original suspension rings and a screw visible on reverse.
