Pair of Torah finials. Jerusalem, Syrian-Jewish (Damascus) community, [ca. 1920s].
Silver, cast, engraved, and punched.
Pear-shaped Torah finials, in Syrian-Lebanese style, reminiscent of the Persian-Bukharan style of finials. Conical head, surmounted by "hamsa" finial. Body decorated with vegetal patterns. Body of finial supported on cylindrical shaft with flattened spherical ornament at top. Chains with bells. Hebrew dedicatory inscription engraved onto shafts: "[…] to the Yagdil Torah Yeshiva of the Jews of Damascus in Jerusalem, from Eliyahu Ma'aravi, […] toward the elevation of the soul of my son […] Moshe Ma'aravi".
Height: 23 cm. Warping. Several missing bells.
