Three (Miznaqa / Znaq) chin chains / head ornaments. Palestine, Hebron Region, [early 20th century].
Silver; silver coins.
Three Palestinian chin chains, made to either dangle from the sides of the head covering so as to adorn the sides of the face and the chin, or to be suspended over the forehead. Variations of this type of head covering ornaments were also popular in Bethlehem and Ramallah (see previous item).
The three ornaments differ from one other, but the basic design is identical; it involves a thick silver chain with a hook at one of the two ends, and with suspended Islamic and Russian silver coins.
