Six Torah pointers. Djerba, Tunisia, and surrounding regions, [late 19th / first half of the 20th century].
Silver, cast, cut, and engraved (unmarked).
Torah pointers in a style typical of Tunisia and Libya, with flat, leaf-shaped lower sections tapering toward the wrist. Decorated with vegetal motifs characteristic of North African designs. One of the pointers is also adorned with a bird, a fish, a crescent moon, and a star – motifs found in jewelry crafted by Jewish silversmiths in Tunisia, and particularly in Djerba.
Two of the pointers are engraved with the verse "Ve’zot HaTorah asher sam Moshe…" and feature engraved illustrations of the Tablets of the Law. One pointer bears the inscription "Tsalat [prayer] for the Kohanim". Another pointer reads "Tsalat el-Kohanim, Djerba", and yet another is inscribed in memory of
"Haviva Mesika… 22 Shevat 5690 [1930]" (Hebrew).
