A silk bookmark with the text of the "Priestly Benediction". Manufacturer: Thomas Stevens, Coventry (England), [second half of 19th century]. Hebrew and English.
Machine-woven silk.
A bookmark with the text - "With best Wishes / … The Lord bless thee and Keep thee: The Lord Make his face to shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee: The Lord Lift up his countenance upon thee and give Thee Peace" – woven in fine colorful letters, decorated with vegetal patterns. The bookmark is signed on the back: "T. Stevens, Coventry".
Coventry was the center of silk production in England. Thomas Stevens started to manufacture embroidered bookmarks with pictures and inscriptions in 1862.
