Pair of Torah finials. [Jerusalem], dedicatory inscription dated 5668 [1908].
Silver, repoussé and engraved (unmarked).
Torah finials of a type in widespread use in the Near East and Jerusalem, having pear-shaped bodies surmounted by round domes tapering to a sharp point on top (Russian-style?), and with a spherical ornament at the joint connecting the body with the shaft. Each finial with suspended chains, with either round, coin-shaped pendants, or with pendants in the form of an open hand ("hamsa"). Dedicatory inscriptions (Hebrew) are engraved on both shafts: "Dedicated to the Almighty … Madam Esther B. Aharon / Shalkhu Shvili to the Holy Congregation of Achizka"; and "Dedicated to the Almighty … Madam Esther B. Aharon / Shalkhu Shvili to the Holy Congregation of Achizka / 2nd [day] of Rosh Hashannah 5668 here in the Holy City of Jerusalem ...("Achizka" is a Jewish name for Akhaltsikhe, a small city in southwestern Georgia).

Height: 28.5 cm. Width: 7 cm. Fair-good condition. Minor fractures and warping. Several loose screw joints. Two chains, and their pendants, missing, and one additional pendant missing.
