Pair finials for a Torah scroll. [North Africa, presumably Algeria or Tunisia, late 19th century].
Silver, pierced and engraved (marked with French fineness mark, in use from 1838, and a tiny, difficult to decipher maker’s mark in lozenge frame); coral beads.
Torah Finials in the form of three-tiered hexagonal towers, tapering toward the top. Each tier features distinct pierced decorations: the lower tier with symmetrical vegetal motifs; the middle tier with lions standing on a twisted branch; and the upper tier with horseshoe-arched windows. Suspension loops shaped as the letter S are soldered to the corners of the lower two tiers, each holding short chains terminating in coral beads. Elongated dome-shaped tops with stylized finials.
Height: 35.5 cm, 37 cm. Max. width: approx. 11 cm. Fair-good condition. One chain and coral bead missing. Old breaks and bends; old solder repairs.
