Torah shield. The Netherlands, [ca. 1913]. Dedicatory inscription dated 1914.
Silver, cut, embossed, repoussé and engraved (marked with Dutch hallmark, in use between 1814-1953); glass stones.
Large, impressive Torah shield. The upper part depicts a pair of lions holding the Tablets of the Law (engraved with the Ten Commandments), topped by a crown inlaid with colorful glass stones. The bottom half comprises a large decoration resembling a pine cone, surrounded by leaves and fruits, around which appears a ribbon-like decoration with a dedicatory inscription:
"Donation from R. Kalonymus son of R. Binyamin HaKohen in memory of his mother, the dear woman Tzerla daughter of R. Chaim Hijmans, widow of R. Binyamin HaKohen van Vlijmen, who passed away on the first day of Rosh Chodesh Adar II in the year [1913]; brought to the chamber of G-d the next year on the anniversary of her passing for the benefit of her soul".

A medallion resembling a sprout or pine cone hangs from chains at bottom edge.
Height: 43 cm (including bottom medallion). Width: 37 cm. Overall good condition. Some leaf decorations broken and partially lacking. Some screws missing.
