The author,
R. Yaakov Chazan London, born in Wesel, traveled to London in his youth where he became a cantor. Orphaned at the age of 9, he traveled to Frankfurt and studied in the yeshiva of the Maharsheshach. After the fire that burned the ghetto in 1811, he traveled to Lissa (Leszno) where he married and disseminated Torah. He later traveled to Prague where he was appointed supervisor of teachers and tester of students.
