Miniature Esther scroll housed in a silver case. [Ottoman Empire, Iraq or the vicinity, 19th century].
Silver, pierced, turned and engraved (unmarked); ink on parchment.
Esther scroll, written in tiny script on four parchment sheets, sewn one to the other; 43 columns of text, 11 lines per column; with Tagim (decorative crownlets) on designated letters, and large, ornamented Tagim in the opening lines.
Housed in an octagonal silver case, decorated with vegetal motifs. Dome-like top, encircled by a serrated outer rim. Rectangular silver pull bar, decorated with a matching design.
Height of parchment: 3.5 cm. Overall good condition. Some staining and creases. Height of case (including handle): 15 cm. Good condition.
