Johann Friedrich Perlberg (1848-1921), German painter, born in Nuremberg. Specialized in architectural and landscape painting. He is particularly known for his depictions of the Middle East, created during his travels: in 1896 he visited Egypt and Sudan, and in 1898 he accompanied German Emperor Wilhelm II on his visit to the Holy Land. During this journey, he produced numerous watercolors, most of them painted on site. Reproductions of several of these works were published in his books Bilder aus dem Heiligen Land (ca. 1900) and Das Heilige Land in Wort und Bild (1924).
