Opening: $500
Sold for: $1,125
Including buyer's premium
Five Books of the Torah, and Five Megillot, with commentary of Rashi, Targum Onkelos and haftarot. Amsterdam, [1712].
Leather-coated wood binding (apparently from 18th century), with eight silver corner decorations and large silver clasps (silver marked with "R").
Divisional title page for Bamidbar and Devarim, and for haftarot (naming the printer, Shlomo Proops, and dated 1712).
First 12 leaves lacking; replaced by first 11 leaves of another Torah edition: Amsterdam: Immanuel Athias, 1700-1701 ([2], 2-10; including both title pages). At beginning of present book, five additional handwritten leaves with Targum Onkelos to first leaves, evidently because Athias' edition lacks the Targum.
[1] last leaf with advertisement for books of printer Shlomo Proops.
Handwritten inscriptions on first title pages, front endpaper and verso, ownership inscriptions and death inscriptions dated 1733, 1752 and 1808.
[2], 2-10, 13-420, 422-431, 433-502, [2]; 58, [1] leaves. Lacking first 12 leaves (replaced by [2], 2-10 leaves from 1700-1701 edition), and lacking leaves 421 and 432 (with handwritten replacements, two leaves each). Foliation trimmed and lacking on many leaves. 12 cm. Decorated gilt edges. Fair-good condition. Stains, including dampstains. Wear. Close trimming, affecting text in many places.
Leather-coated wooden binding, with color endpaper. Wear and defects to binding.
