Sold for: $188
Including buyer's premium
"Do not vote for collaborators and those who hand over their own brothers!". Election poster issued by the Herut party led by Menachem Begin. Printer and year not indicated. [1949?]
Poster in red and black, with the caption "Do not vote for collaborators and those who hand over their own brothers!" in the center. Hands pointing fingers at the caption are printed on both sides of it. The hands on the right side are bound in chains, with the names of the prisons and detention camps where members of the underground movements were held: Acre, Mizra, and Tzrifin; Latrun and Bethlehem; Sudan, Kenya; the Jaffa, Jerusalem, and Cairo prisons.
The poster, which was presumably printed before the elections for the first Knesset (the Constituent Assembly), was aimed at the Mapai and Mapam political parties, whose members were involved in the "saison" ("the hunting season," an operation in which members of the Irgun were handed over to the British).
35X49 cm. Good-fair condition. Foxing. Folding marks and creases. A few blemishes and small tears (one tear is reinforced with acid-free tape).
Provenance: Rimon Family Collection.
