Decorated Esther scroll on a wooden roller. [Morocco, 19th Century or Early 20th Century].

Ink and paint on parchment; turned wood.

Inscribed on four parchment sheets sewn one to the other, featuring 24 columns of text, with 17-18 lines per column. Rolled onto the original wooden roller.

The scroll is decorated throughout with painted ink ornaments in green and red, following a uniform design featuring arches supported by large architectural columns. The arches and columns are adorned with vegetal and geometric motifs.

Height of parchment: 12 cm. Height of wooden roller: cm. Scroll in good condition, with some marginal staining. Minor marginal stains and tears to first sheet. Some chips and losses to the decorations on the wooden roller.
