Black-and-white photograph, documenting the first Shabbat prayer at the Old Western Wall Plaza, taken from a rooftop in the Mughrabi Quarter (later that same day, the IDF ordered the residents to evacuate, and began demolishing the buildings to create the present-day plaza).
Mounted and framed photograph, signed in pencil on the mat; photographer's stamp on verso.
Two printed labels (in Hebrew and English) affixed to the lower part of the mat:
"10 June 1967 The first Shabat (Sabbath) at the Western Wall after the war. Together with Rabbi Goren, the first soldiers had placed a Torah Scroll, a "shofar", and a bench at the Wall. David Harris".

David Harris (1929-2008), Jerusalem born photographer, who documented the history of Israel for over six decades. Studied painting in his youth under Shmuel Charuvi. Harris began his career as a military photographer in 1947 and later worked extensively for the national institutions. From 1959, he worked as an independent photojournalist and collaborated with various museums. Known especially for his documentation of the waves of immigration to Israel during the 1950s and 1960s.
