Wimpel (Torah binder), commemorating the birth of the child Meir son of Mordechai Gumpel. [Germany], Tammuz 1782.
Ink and paint on linen.
Composed of four linen sheets, nearly identical in size, sewn one to the other. At center appears the inscription: “Meir, son of… R. Mordechai Gumpel, was born… on Thursday, 15 Tammuz, may G-d… grant that he be raised to [a life of] Torah, marriage, and good deeds. Amen, Selah.”
Decorated throughout with a border composed of a recurring motif of intertwining branches, and featuring various illustrations, among them: an angel with the inscription “for He will command His angels on your behalf to guard you in all your ways”; a crab inside an ornate cartouche (Cancer zodiac sign); a double-headed eagle with the verse “Be light as an eagle” and the inscription “Keter Malchut”; a man lifting a Torah scroll with the inscription “it is a tree of life for those who grasp it”; a triple-arched canopy; and a lion accompanied by the inscriptions “be mighty as a lion” and “a lion has roared; who will not fear".
Height: 18.5 cm. Length: 346 cm. Overall good condition. Stains and creases. Backed with a later linen support panel.

Wimpel (Torah binder), commemorating the birth of the child Avraham Ze’ev son of Yosef Aryeh Leib. [Germany], Tammuz 5545 [1785].
Ink and paint on linen.
Composed of four nearly identical linen sheets sewn one to the other. At center appears the inscription: “Avraham Ze’ev son of... R. Yosef Aryeh… born on Wednesday, the second day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5545, may G-d raise him to [a life of] Torah, marriage, and good deeds. Amen Selah".
Decorated with illustrations of animals, plants and flowers, a Torah scroll, and a couple with a rabbi beneath a wedding canopy. At the beginning appears a gate-like illustration, with an additional inscription: “This is the gift of the child Avraham Ze’ev son of… R. Yosef Aryeh Leib… born on Wednesday, the second day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5545”.
Height: 21 cm. Length: 333.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains. Minor tears. Piece missing at edge of fourth sheet, restored with a later fabric patch.

Wimpel (Torah binder), commemorating the birth of the child Moshe son of Shimon Neustädtel. [Germany], Nisan [5566] 1806.
Ink and paint on linen.
Composed of three linen sheets nearly equal in size, sewn one to the other. At center appears the inscription: “The child Moshe son of Shimon Neustädtel was born… on Shabbat, 3 Nisan 5566. May G-d raise him to [a life of] Torah, marriage, and good deeds, Amen Selah”. The child’s name also appears in small letters within an illustration resembling a Torah Ark at the beginning of the first sheet.
Decorated with various illustrations of animals, plants and flowers, along with scenes relating to Biblical Moses (in reference to the child’s name), and a large depiction of a wedding canopy with a wedding scene and a trumpet-blowing figure.
Height: 22.5 cm. Length: 266 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains and minor tears, some affecting illustrations and text. Backed with a later linen sheet for support.

The handle (hilt) is crafted from faceted, polished agate, set into a cylindrical silver mount with scalloped edges. The silver is engraved with the name of the owner,
“Leibel bar Yitzchak”, and the Hebrew acronym for the verse “Ezri Me’Im Hashem Oseh Shamayim Va’Aretz” (Psalms 121:2).

Tallit bag for a Bar Mitzvah boy. Algeria, [1849? or early 20th century].
Silver, repoussé, pierced and engraved (marked with French fineness mark, in use from 1838, and a tiny, difficult to decipher maker’s mark in a lozenge frame); velvet; cotton and metal threads.
Elaborate tallit bag, apparently presented as a Bar Mitzvah gift. Richly decorated on both sides: one side with vegetal designs, two palm trees, a seven-branched menorah, Temple implements, palm motifs (hamsas), and the Bar Mitzvah boy’s name at the top –
“Chaim Dayan”; the other side features two lions flanking a Star of David, inscribed with the year “1836” (possibly the boy’s year of birth), vegetal motifs, a hamsa, and a monogram with the initials DE. The bag’s sides are decorated with pierced vegetal motifs and fitted with rings holding braided cords of metal thread. Lined with white velvet.

Two hanging memorial lamps for synagogue use. [Gibraltar], one dated 1862, the other presumably from the late 19th century.
Silver, cast, cut, pierced, repoussé and engraved (unmarked).
1. Memorial lamp with domed canopy decorated with vegetal motifs, central hoop suspended from three silver chains. Engraved dedication on the hoop, pertaining to members of the Pariente family, dated Shevat 5622 [1862].
Height: 60 cm. Diameter of central hoop: 15.5 cm. Max. width: 19 cm. Good condition. Some chain links detached at top (possibly remnants of additional supporting chains).
2. Memorial lamp suspended by four silver chains attached to a pierced central hoop with repeating design. Engraved dedication members of the Pariente family.
Height: approx. 38 cm. Diameter of hoop: 17 cm. Max. width: 21 cm. Overall good condition. Minor bends to some chain links. Lacking Canopy (presumably missing).

Hanging memorial lamp for the Synagogue. Morocco, 5682 [1922].
Silver, pierced and engraved (apparently unmarked).
Large and ornate memorial lamp, intended for synagogue use, dedicated to Shmuel ibn Mergui. The lamp consists of three main components connected by chains:
1. Dome-shaped upper hanger.
2. Broad hoop suspended from the hanger by five thick chains composed of large silver links, attached to five large hooks with plant-patterned designs, affixed to the hoop.
3. Bowl-like base (to support glass oil cup), decorated with pierced vegetal designs, suspended from the central hoop by chains.
An inscription, in openwork letters, appears in two lines on the central hoop, dedicating the lamp to the memory of R. Shmuel ibn Mergui, dated [5682 = 1922].
Height: approx. 105 cm, maximum width: approx. 40 cm. Overall good condition. Some silver links missing at chain junctions with hooks or upper hanger. Some joints slightly loose. Lacking glass oil cup.

Memorial lamp with arched backplate, decorated with vegetal patterns and a seven-branched menorah. Dedicatory inscription for Esther Assoudri is pierced at top. Two oil cups with pinched spouts at bottom; beneath them, a drip tray with undulating front. Low side panels, decorated with matching pattern. Thin metal sheet affixed to back.
Height: 27 cm, Width: 17 cm, Depth: 8 cm. Overall good condition. Some bends and minor breaks; break to one side wall. Some rust to metal sheet. Old soldering repairs. Some original pins and connecting rods missing or replaced with makeshift joints.
