Marbadiah by Bezalel rug, depicting Adam, Eve and the snake by the Tree of Knowledge. Jerusalem, [1920s].
Wool knot-pile; cotton foundation.
The central panel depicts Adam and Eve on both sides of the Tree of Knowledge, around which the snake is entwined. Eve, a deer crouching behind her, hands a fruit to Adam, behind whom a lion crouches.
Inscribed ‘Adam and Eve’ and ‘Marbadiah Jerusalem’ (Hebrew) in the bottom border.
61x41.5cm. Good condition. Several small repairs. Straps sewn to upper and lower border on verso.
