Yagdil Torah – A weekly anthology of Torah novellae… responsa… and articles about strengthening religion, Torah and fear of Heaven. Year 1, Issues 1-24. Slutzk, 1908-1910. Torah periodical printed, initiated and supervised by Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer at the time he held the positions of Av Beit Din and head of yeshiva in Slutsk; edited by Rabbi Moshe Binyamin Tomshov – the Mabit. Reported in an issue of HaPardess (NY, 1959, 33rd year, Issue 5), based on this periodical, is that on Purim 1908 Rabbi Isser Zalman spoke with Rabbi Tomshov about the importance of establishing a Torah mouthpiece for Yeshiva students and rabbis. Rabbi Tomshov swiftly attained a permit and on Chanuka 1909, the first issue was published with an interesting introduction regarding the importance of the periodical "to strengthen the hearts of the young and to blow life into the camp of young students educated to reach Torah heights”. This anthology was published in Slutsk before 1912, the year the Mabit left Slutsk for the US [where he was celebrated as one of the greatest rabbis and Torah leaders who established Orthodox Jewish communities following World War I]. During 1906-1920, the printing of the periodical was renewed in NY and in 1927-1928 two more issues of the anthology were printed in Slutsk (under the Bolshevik rule), re-established by Rabbi Yechezkel Abramsky Av Beit Din of Slutsk and edited by Rabbi Shlomo Yosef Zevin. 288 pages. 20.5 cm. Brittle paper, good condition, stains and minor damages. Contemporary rubbed leather-backed binding.
