Letters handwritten and signed by the Rebbe of Seret-Vizhnitz, Rabbi Baruch Hager. Haifa, July 1951. Sent to the Agudat Yisrael center. The rebbe writes that for his own reasons, he refrains from signing any party proclamations [this letter is apparently a response to a party's request to sign a notice before the second elections, held in August, 1951]. Part of the letter was possibly written by his scribe. Rebbe Baruch Hager of Seret-Vizhnitz (1895-1963, Otzar HaRabbanim 4066), fourth son of the Ahavat Yisrael of Vizhnitz. He was ordained for the rabbinate by the Maharam Arik and by Rabbi A. M. Steinberg of Brody. Served in the rabbinate from 1923. In 1936, he was appointed Rebbe of Seret and in 1947, immigrated to Haifa and reestablished his Beit Midrash and the community institutes. Member of the Mo'etzet Gedolei HaTorah of Agudat Yisrael. Official stationery, 22 cm. Good condition, file holes.

Interesting political letter, handwritten and signed by the Ger Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Pinchas Alter, [Jerusalem], Adar Bet 1989. The letter was adressed to the Agudat Yisrael Knesset members alluding to the ruling set forth by the Moetzet Gedolei HaTorah regarding the voting in the Knesset committee about the validity of the elections [a topic that was relevant to the second mandate of the Degel HaTorah party]. Background: The Degel HaTorah party representing the Lithuanian circles [which were formerly part of Agudat Yisrael] contested for the first time in the November 1988 elections to the Knesset and won two Knesset seats. The second seat hinged upon a small number of votes and they were liable to lose it following an appeal by HaTechiya which invalidated several ballots in Ramat Gan. Eventually, the Knesset Committee decided to repeat the voting at those ballots and Degel HaTorah won the second mandate again by just a few votes. Several years later, the two parties reunited, and today they are listed at the Knesset elections under the umbrella name of Agudat Yisrael-Degel HaTorah. This letter reveals interesting historical-political data on the insturctions received by Agudat Yisrael Knesset members as to their vote at that Knesset Committee. Official stationery, 20 cm. More than 15 handwritten lines. Good condition, folding creases and file holes.
