Scholarly glosses in Oriental handwriting. In the long gloss on Leaf 79/b the proofreader writes: "See reponsum in the book Chaim Sha'al" and further in the gloss he mentions the "Ramaz". [Apparently, the writer of the gloss is the Mapah – Rabbi Moshe Pardo (1814-1888), great-grandson of the Chida author of Tzedek U'Mishpat. One of the leading Jerusalem rabbis where he served as dayan and Av Beit Din. During 1871-1888 he served as rabbi of Thebes Alexandria].

Three ancient signatures: "Yosef ben Rabbi Shlomo Ashm---"; "Yehuda Leib of Vora—" [apparently from the city of Voronok in the Poznań region where Rabbi Yisrael Lifshitz, author of Tiferet Yisrael served in the rabbinate]. Leaf 88 has a long handwritten scholarly gloss.

On the title page is a self-dedication signed by Rabbi "Refael Yitzchak Batito" who received the book from the author. Some ten handwritten glosses, most of which he signed with his initials. Signatures and stamps of Rabbi "Moshe Eisenbach" from Jerusalem.
[3], 224 leaves. 31 cm. Good-fair condition, most leaves are in good condition, stains. Tears to title page and last leaf.

On the book sheets are several glosses by an unidentified writer.

Rabbi Aryeh Leibush Bernstein (1780-c.1843), renowned leader and Torah scholar in the city of Lvov (Lemberg). His father, Rabbi Yechiel Michel (died 1841) was a community leader in Lvov, brother of Rabbi Shmuel Brinstein Av Beit Din of Amsterdam and Rabbi Nathan Av Beit Din of Lubartów .

Sde Yehoshua responsa, Rabbi Yehoshua Heshel Wallerstein Av Beit Din of Rzeszów (Raysha) [disciple of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz]. Lvov, 1900. First edition.
Signatures and self-dedication signed by Rabbi Yehuda Rubinstein, son of Rabbi Mordechai, author of Doresh L'Frakim, who received the book from Rabbi Yosef Hartman, author of Bracha M'Zion on the Torah and publisher of Karnei Or by Rabbi A.S. Mani of Hebron.
The book has long interesting glosses, some signed "Yehuda", "Yehuda Rubinstein". On the margins of the introduction, the proofreader wrote: "I have written a special pamphlet on this book called Ohel Yehoshua, Y. H. R. ben Mordechai".
Rabbi Yehuda Rubinstein (1899-1973), son of Rabbi Mordechai Rubinstein (1844-1917) who served as magid in Krakow for 30 years, authored the book Doresh L'Frakim on Pirkei Avot. In 1907, he ascended to Jerusalem with his father. These glosses were written when he was young [before his father's death in 1917] and his genius Torah knowledge is apparent from a young age. In 1922, he traveled to the USA to work as the secretary of Rabbi Dov Leventhal Av Beit Din of Philadelphia and president of Agudat HaRabbanim. Eventually, he moved to Chicago and to New York, there he was active in Torah and writing activities. Was also a well-known bibliographer.
Renowned for his fabulous memory and known as an expert bibliographer, he wrote many Torah articles and edited several Torah periodicals. [For a short list of his history and for a bibliography of his publications, see the article written by Rabbi Tuvia Pershel HaDarom, 45, Tishrei 1978]. Most of his writings are still in manuscript form.

Handwriting similar to the handwriting of Rabbi Yisrael Nissan Kuperstock (1858-1930) one of the elder Rabbis of Polish Chassidism, descended from the Rebbes of Alexander. Served in the Rabbinate for over 40 years in Przysucha, Ryazan and Makó. In 1925, he ascended to Jerusalem, where he published his book Ani Ben Pachma responsa and established the Alexander Yismach Yisrael Yeshiva.

Ya'arot Dvash, homiletics of Rabbi Yehonatan Eibeshitz. Parts 1-2. Karlsruhe, 1779-1782. First edition.
On the title page of Part 2 appears the signature of Rabbi "Yisrael ben Rabbi Y. L. of Leszno" in handwritten square letters. Copied on the margins of Part 1 are glosses [in a handwriting similar to the square letters] of sources, proofs and queries titled at the top of the pages R.L.Z.".
The work "Rishon L'Zion" on "Ya'arot Dvash", by the renowned Torah genius Rabbi Yeshaya Pik-Berlin, was first printed from a manuscript in an edition of "Or HaSefer" (Jerusalem, 1983). From the examination of the manuscript compared to this edition, many differences were found which were not printed.
Lacking copy: 2-116 leaves; [4] 112 leaves. (Originally; [4] 116 leaves: [4] 116 leaves). 20.5 cm. Good-fair condition, wear and stains, missing tears to title page of Part 2. Handwritten notes are partially cut off.
