Manuscript, Chevra Kadisha regestry book of Ratzfert (Újfehértó, Hungary) community.
Large and elegant regestry book documenting approximately a century of activity of the Chevra Kadisha in Ratzfert. First notation from year 1834 and last from 1930.
Artistic title page at beginning of the regestry book, illustrated and ornamented in colorful ink and gold powder. On following leaf, illustration of star in round frame; beneath it listing of regulations of association [mention of regulation from 1777 approved by “Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Kaliv”]. Personal leaves allocated to each community member. These leaves contain over two hundred names, signatures and various notations. Names of members ornamented with frames and decorations of various styles from several artists.
Notepad lists rabbis of community, including Av Beit Din of Ratzfert Rabbi Shaul Rosenberg author of Chemdat Shaul Responsa, and Rebbe Rabbi Shalom Eliezer Halberstam of Ratzfert [son of Rebbe Rabbi Chaim of Sanz, settled in Ratzfert where he established an impressive Chassidic court. Perished in Holocaust; his descendants reestablished the Chassidut in America and in Eretz Yisrael].

Notebook of Hazkarat Neshamot [Remembrance of the Dead] of “Chevra Kadisha of Albert-Irsa community”, from year 1909.
Handwriting on parchment in large format. Fine title page with illustration of Yahrzheit [death anniversary] candle with ornamentation of letters in colorful ink with names of managers and illustrator of notepad, Yitzchak Schwartz, book salesman in Budapest.
First two leaves contains version of ‘Yizkor’ [memorial prayer] prayer and ‘El Maleh Rachamim’ prayer, in large vowelized letters. Dozens of names of community members listed throughout leaves of the notebook. One page dedicated to community rabbis, such as Rabbi Amram Rosenbaum [“Amram Chasida”], Rabbi Chaim Kitza [author of Otzar Chaim], Rabbi Yona Tzvi Bernfeld and Rabbi Yehoshua Bichler.

Donation notebook. Kiskunfélegyháza community (Hungary), [1926].
Notepad for listing of donations on Shabbat. Half page allocated for each community member in which name was listed, with slots for placement of index cards indicating sum of donation. Many names of community members listed throughout notebook. Writer integrated verses from Mishlei and proverbs from Pirkei Avot on pages. Notations in Hebrew and Hungarian.
Listing at end of notebook: “Carried out, written and signed in honor of the Creator, his holy Torah… Kiskunfélegyháza… 1926, Asher Anshel son of Tova Schick…”.
Attached are approx. 30 paper cards used in notepad.

"This is a book of praise and song in this holy Jewish community of Possano on the miracle our Great G-d has performed for us… the fourth night of Pesach". [Italy, 1797].
In 1796, Napoleon conquered Northern Italy. During the battle between the French and the Austrians, the Jews of that region were attacked by their non-Jewish neighbors and their property was plundered. This happened also in Possano, when the city residents raided the Jewish ghetto in the course of the French siege. The Jews closed themselves in the synagogue waiting for salvation, which came at dawn, when a French shell landed on the synagogue steps chasing away the rioters. In memory of this event, a poem (of 36 stanzas) was printed with a description of the miracle. ["In 1797, during the war, this place was filled with terror… the fourth night of Pesach… was changed to dread… while outside the French were battling to enter the city… armed men gathered, thieves of various sorts.. The whole community was trembling lest the enemy enter the Coveted House… The morning dawned and all the plunderers ran away petrified…"]. Mentioned in the introduction, which has additional details of the event, is the community regulation to read this poem every year in memory of the miracle. In the last line of the poem, the word Avraham is emboldened hinting to the name of the composer [maybe the rabbi of the place]. This copy has several handwritten corrections.
