Tashbetz, rulings and customs of R. Meir (Maharam) of Rothenburg, by his disciple R. Shimshon son of R. Tzadok. Cremona: Vincenzo Conti, 1556. First edition.
This work, which became known as Tashbetz Katan, is considered an important source whose rulings are presented as law by the Shulchan Aruch and other halachic authorities. It was common in manuscript and became one of the most important halachic books in Germany. Reputedly, the author – a disciple of the Maharam of Rothenburg – recorded his halachic rulings during the latter's imprisonment. The present book is the first edition of the work (the second edition was printed only some 300 years later, in Lemberg, 1858). The present title page records the name of the author (disciple of the Maharam) as R. "Shmuel son of R. Tzadok", but it is commonly accepted that his name was Shimshon (this is also the conclusion of the Chida in his entry in Shem HaGedolim).
Title page illustrated with fine engraving.
Handwritten inscriptions inside front board, one deleted.
Several glosses in Ashkenazic script [ca. 18th/19th century], one referring to the writer's other glosses and novellae (p. 40b).
[6], 55 leaves. Approx. 19 cm. Fair-good condition. Many stains, including dampstains and inkstains. Marginal tears to several leaves. Close trimming, affecting page headers in several places. Early binding, with leather spine. Wear and defects to binding.
Bookplate of Mozes Heiman Gans.

Sefer HaGedarim (Book of Definitions), by R. Menachem son of Avraham, called Bonafos Avraham of Perpignan. Salonika: [Shlomo and Yosef Yaavetz], 1567. First edition.
An encyclopedic work on philosophy and medicine, ethics and various disciplines, arranged alphabetically. Also called Michlal Yofi, as stated in the author's introduction to the book.
At the beginning of the book is an introduction by R. Yitzchak son of Moshe ibn Arroyo, stating that some of the definitions were authored by R. Shmuel ibn Tibbon, while others were authored by himself (the additions are incorporated in the main text of the book, with the authors' names indicated by their initials).
On leaves [47]-[50] are printed "Chapters on Happiness by the Rambam" (this is the first printing of these chapters attributed to the Rambam).
On the title page, the printers of the Yaavetz family mention their activities in printing the Talmud: "May G-d mercifully grant us life to merit the completion of the printing of all the Talmud…" (very few tractates survived from this printing, and it is unclear whether they indeed succeeded in printing the complete Talmud).
Inscriptions on title page. Ownership inscription on last leaf in Ladino of "Shlomo Morsa" (perhaps R. Shlomo Morsa, a dayan of Monastir, Macedonia, whose signature appears in Responsa Maharshdam, Yoreh Deah 39).

Copy lacking title page, with defects.
Torat HaOlah is a philosophical-kabbalistic work discussing the Temple and sacrifices. In his preface, the Rama explains that the purpose of his work is to achieve true appreciation of the great benefit gained from the Temple and what we lost with its destruction, and for it to be constantly available to perform sacrifices in thought.
The preface is preceded by a poem in praise of the author, authored by "Monnes". On the final leaf, two poems in praise of the author and the book, by "Shmuel son of Reuven, known as Shmuel Setzer of Frankfurt am Main".
