Esther scroll in decorated filigree silver case. [Israel, ca. mid-20th century].
Ink, paint and gold on parchment; silver, filigree and granulation (with Israeli duty mark – "13" inside the letter Mem, in use from the 1950s); glass and turquoise marbles; gilt.
Small-format scroll, written on two parchment sheets sewn together, 15 text columns, 19 lines per column.
Scroll decorated throughout with colored and gilt illustrations, in a repeating pattern: helical pillars separating text columns, topped by angels holding baskets of flowers and pairs of birds. The upper and lower margins are decorated throughout the scroll with illustrations of flowers and fruits. An illustration of a scaffold-like ladder appears on the column with the names of the ten sons of Haman.
Placed in elegant silver case, inlaid with turquoise and pink glass marbles.
Height of parchment: 6 cm. Overall good condition. Light moisture damage, slightly affecting illustrations, mainly to upper and lower margins. Outer edge of first sheet significantly abraded and faded. Case: 16.5 cm. Good condition. Several missing pieces in filigree decorations.

Decorated Esther scroll. [Israel, ca. 1950s].
Ink and paint on parchment; carved wood.
Exceptionally large Esther scroll, written on three parchment sheets sewn one to the other; eight text columns, 43 lines per column, with tagin on designated letters.
Hand-decorated throughout in soft tones of yellow, brown, red, pink, green, light blue, purple and gold. The illustrations feature architectural arches and columns incorporating the symbols of the Twelve Zodiac signs within oval medallions (in some cases two signs appear together, one above the other). Sewn onto a large wooden handle, housed in a custom leather-covered case with openings for the ends of the handle.
Parchment height: 49 cm. Overall good condition. Minor stains, creases, and some fading to ink and pigments. Handle height: 67 cm. Case dimensions: 51X12X10 cm.

Parchment Shir HaShirim scroll, miniature with colorful decorations. [Israel, ca. 1950].
Ink and paint on parchment.
Shir HaShirim scroll written on one parchment sheets, in 8 text columns, usually 26 lines of text per column.
Decorated throughout with color and gilt illustrations. Each text column flanked by a pair of large pillars topped by pointed multifoil arches. Vine and flower decorations on upper and bottom margins, and various figurative decorations at tops of columns (some representing symbols of the twelve tribes).
Height of parchment: 8.5 cm. Length of scroll: 58.5 cm. Overall good condition. At beginning of scroll, punctures and creases, apparently due to a former connection to a case or handle.

Miniature format. Oriental script, square and semi-cursive (characteristic of Baghdad), written in black ink and some colored ink. Initial panels and decorations in color. All pages bordered by frames (colored pink, brown and yellow). Floral decorations in several places. Most pages begin with dome-shaped text: "Know before Whom you stand…". Decorated title page in middle of manuscript.
Includes weekday Minchah and Maariv prayers, and beginning of an Arabic translation of Shir HaShirim (with divisional title page; after which leaves are missing), and Kabbalat Shabbat (interrupted at beginning of Maariv for Shabbat). Kabbalistic kavanot incorporated within text and in margins.

The Passover Dahir was customarily recited in North African communities during Pesach. The work contains a halachic piyyut on the laws of Pesach, in Hebrew and in stanza-by-stanza Judeo-Arabic translation, additional piyyutim in Judeo-Arabic, and Targum of the festival haftarot.
