Wimpel (Torah binder), commemorating the birth of the child Meir son of Mordechai Gumpel. [Germany], Tammuz 1782.
Ink and paint on linen.
Composed of four linen sheets, nearly identical in size, sewn one to the other. At center appears the inscription: “Meir, son of… R. Mordechai Gumpel, was born… on Thursday, 15 Tammuz, may G-d… grant that he be raised to [a life of] Torah, marriage, and good deeds. Amen, Selah.”
Decorated throughout with a border composed of a recurring motif of intertwining branches, and featuring various illustrations, among them: an angel with the inscription “for He will command His angels on your behalf to guard you in all your ways”; a crab inside an ornate cartouche (Cancer zodiac sign); a double-headed eagle with the verse “Be light as an eagle” and the inscription “Keter Malchut”; a man lifting a Torah scroll with the inscription “it is a tree of life for those who grasp it”; a triple-arched canopy; and a lion accompanied by the inscriptions “be mighty as a lion” and “a lion has roared; who will not fear".
Height: 18.5 cm. Length: 346 cm. Overall good condition. Stains and creases. Backed with a later linen support panel.

Wimpel (Torah binder), commemorating the birth of the child Avraham Ze’ev son of Yosef Aryeh Leib. [Germany], Tammuz 5545 [1785].
Ink and paint on linen.
Composed of four nearly identical linen sheets sewn one to the other. At center appears the inscription: “Avraham Ze’ev son of... R. Yosef Aryeh… born on Wednesday, the second day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5545, may G-d raise him to [a life of] Torah, marriage, and good deeds. Amen Selah".
Decorated with illustrations of animals, plants and flowers, a Torah scroll, and a couple with a rabbi beneath a wedding canopy. At the beginning appears a gate-like illustration, with an additional inscription: “This is the gift of the child Avraham Ze’ev son of… R. Yosef Aryeh Leib… born on Wednesday, the second day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz 5545”.
Height: 21 cm. Length: 333.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains. Minor tears. Piece missing at edge of fourth sheet, restored with a later fabric patch.

Wimpel (Torah binder), commemorating the birth of the child Moshe son of Shimon Neustädtel. [Germany], Nisan [5566] 1806.
Ink and paint on linen.
Composed of three linen sheets nearly equal in size, sewn one to the other. At center appears the inscription: “The child Moshe son of Shimon Neustädtel was born… on Shabbat, 3 Nisan 5566. May G-d raise him to [a life of] Torah, marriage, and good deeds, Amen Selah”. The child’s name also appears in small letters within an illustration resembling a Torah Ark at the beginning of the first sheet.
Decorated with various illustrations of animals, plants and flowers, along with scenes relating to Biblical Moses (in reference to the child’s name), and a large depiction of a wedding canopy with a wedding scene and a trumpet-blowing figure.
Height: 22.5 cm. Length: 266 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains and minor tears, some affecting illustrations and text. Backed with a later linen sheet for support.

Leaf from a parchment machzor manuscript. [Ashkenazic lands, ca. 14th century].
Large-format parchment leaf. Square Ashkenazic script, vocalized, on both sides of leaf. Letters in large script, 17 lines per page.
This leaf was reused as a binding or a folder, but is preserved almost in its entirety, apart from several defects and tears.
The leaf features a section from a kerovah piyyut by R. Moshe son of R. Kalonymus, recited in Ashkenazic communities at Shacharit of the eighth day of Pesach, from the kiklar piyyut Chacham Lev VeAmitz Koach.

Large-format Esther scroll. [Italy, apparently Rome, late 17th century].
Ink and paint on parchment; wood, turned and carved.
Esther scroll written on 6 parchment sheets sewn together, 21 lines of text, 21 lines per column. Serifs (Tagim). Sewn to tall wooden handle, with a crown-like decoration topped by a large bud.
At outer edge of scroll, large family coat of arms – an erect lion holding a branch in its front paw, resting its back paw on a wheel (perhaps the Bondi family coat of arms) – within a decorated, framed cartouche and surrounded by a wide, colorful architectural frame composed of a pair of pillars, a parapet balustrade and frieze illustrated with flowers and fruits. At end of scroll, large illustration added at a later date (apparently from the 20th century), depicting King Ahasuerus and Mordechai, with a frame matching that of the former illustration.
Height of parchment: 33.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Fading of ink and paint. Stains throughout scroll. Outer edge of scroll worn and stained, as usual, with tear of approx. 3 cm. Height of roller: 61 cm. Overall good condition, two open cracks to upper decoration.

Ink on parchment; wood.
Small-format Esther scroll, inscribed on seven parchment sheets sewn one to the other (+ one small blank parchment sheet sewn to the roller); 49 columns of text, 11 lines per column, with tagin on designated letters. Accompanied by a matching parchment leaf inscribed with the blessings recited before and after the reading of the Megillah.
Rolled on its original roller, typical of scrolls originating in Central and Western Europe, particularly the Netherlands.
Parchment height: 6 cm. Overall good condition. Some stains, primarily at the beginning of the first sheet. Minor splitting at seams. Lacking tying ribbon at beginning of first sheets. Handle height: 26.5 cm. Good condition, minor cracks.

Large-format Esther scroll, written on eight light brown gevil parchment sheets; 24 columns, 19 lines per column. Occasional tagin on designated letters.
A high-quality scroll, with its first two sheets sewn to green satin fabric. Rolled on the original decorative wooden handle. Accompanied by a separate sheet of blessings, containing the blessings recited before and after the reading of the megillah. At the end of the blessings appears the scribe’s signature: “MiYad Yitzchak Sofer”.
Parchment height: 32.5 cm. Overall good condition. Some seams between sheets partially unraveled; tears and wear to edges of first satin sheet; one fabric strap lacking. Handle height: 53 cm. Some breaks and losses. Blessings sheet: 32X21 cm. Good condition.
