Decorative Leaf for a Synagogue – Alexandria

Decorative leaf for a synagogue. [Alexandria, Egypt (?), first decades of 20th century]. Ink and watercolor on paper. It is possible that the leaf served as kind of a “Mizrah” (“Da lifnei mi ata omed”) as well as for protection. A large Star of David in the center, composed from the Priestly Benediction verses (Book of Numbers, 6) with “Shadai” inscribed in it. Surrounded by decorations of branches and flowers. An additional inscription on the lower part (later?) in pencil: “Ya’akov Hassun Bar Hana Nada, Alexandria (Na-Amon) Egypt”. Approx. 63X48 cm. Good-fair condition. Folding marks. Pierce at top. Worming and some tears. Ink stains (as a result of folding). Framed (unexamined out of frame).
