Torah Ark Curtain – Morocco
Torah ark curtain ("Parochet"). Morocco, [first half of 20th century]. Purple velvet cloth; gold thread embroidery. Fine "Parochet" decorated with leaves and flowers embroidered with gold thread. At the center, in a shield-shaped border, the words: “Holy to HaShem / Parochet / dedicated by Sultana Ashkenazi in memory of her husband David Amoyal". Finished with metal-thread tassels. Length: 150 cm., width: 120 cm. Damage to velvet cloth, tears and fraying at edges.
