Siddur in Decorated Silver Binding – Italy, 18th/19th Century

Decorated silver binding. Italy, [late 18th or early 19th century].
Silver, repoussé (unmarked); print on paper.
Silver binding in small format, decorated with symmetrical vegetal patterns. Blank cartouche in center of binding.

The book: Sephardic-rite siddur, printed for Gad Shmuel Foa. Venice: Bragadin, 1772. 164 leaves. 8.5 cm. Overall good condition. Stains. Wear to margins. Gilt edges, gauffered. Blank leaves bound at beginning and end. Worming in one place, slightly affecting last leaves.
Height of binding: 9 cm. Width: 6 cm. Thickness: 3 cm. Fair-good condition. Warping to corners and edges, and minor fractures. Back silver binding broken and detached from spine, with some pieces of silver lacking. Binding may be more recent than book.
