Torah shield. [Probably France (Paris) or Alsace, 19th century].
Silver, repoussé, embossed and engraved (apparently unmarked).
Unusual model, probably French. Edges decorated with a pair of particularly large erect lions, holding a ribbon-like decoration topped by a large crown.
Dedicatory inscription engraved on ribbon (French): "A la Mémoire de Mes Chers Parents F. Brunschwick" ("In Memory of My Dear Parents F. Brunschwick"). At the center of the shield is a large decoration in the form of the Tablets of the Law (engraved with the Ten Commandments), above a rectangular frame (blank), in turn above a rectangular compartment for replacement plaques (without plaques).
