Parchment Ketubah – Gordes, Provence, 1805 – Only Documented Ketubah from Gordes

Parchment ketubah, for the weeding of Yaakov son of Moshe Beaucaire and Esther daughter of Yisrael Abram. Gordes, Provence, Southern France, 4th Nisan 5565 (April 3, 1805).
Ink on parchment.
Written on rectangular parchment sheet with upper edges decoratively cut. Ketubah text appears in center, in square letters, with signatures of groom, witnesses, bridesmaids and groomsmen and cantor (some from the Carcassonne family).
Ketubah text also dated to Germinal 13 according to the French Revolutionary calendar, in use 1793-1805. The ketubah begins with verses of blessing and verses relating to the names of the bride and groom.
The present item is the only documented ketubah from Gordes.

31.5X40 cm. Overall good condition. Creases, stains and moisture damage, some dark, slightly affecting text.
