Decorated Parchment Ketubah – Ancona, 1765 – Pacifico Family Coat of Arms

Decorated parchment ketubah, for the wedding of Yaakov Chaim son of Yoav Yehoshua Pacifico and Regina daughter of Yaakov Peretz Bonsignor. Ancona, Italy, 15th Cheshvan 5526 [October 30, 1765].
Ink and paint on parchment.
Written on a rectangular parchment sheet, with upper edge cut in a wave pattern. Ketubah text in the center in square letters, with signatures of witnesses below, and Tena'im text, with the same witnesses' signatures.
The ketubah text is enclosed in a square frame, with a large arch in the center and decorations in vegetal patterns around it in bright red and blue, incorporating gilt decorations. The outer edges feature verses of blessing from the Book of Ruth. The upper third features further vegetal illustrations, a pair of large birds and a central cartouche with the Pacifico family coat of arms (an erect lion holding a date branch).

48.5X69 cm. Overall good condition. Creases and folding marks. Some stains, mainly to bottom part, slightly affecting text and decorations. Fading of paint, professionally restored.
