Silver, repoussé and engraved (unmarked); parcel gilt; filigree and granulation; glass beads.
Elegant silver binding presented as a wedding gift to a bridegroom. On the front binding is a gilt silver decoration, incorporating filigree decorations in vegetal patterns, and set with glass stones. The back of the binding is fashioned into matching vegetal patterns. A dedicatory inscription is engraved on the spine: "This Chumash belongs to the distinguished groom R. David son of R. Leib" followed by a chronogram for the year 1779 (the year may possibly be read as 1788). Includes a pair of silver clasps with matching decorations.
