Miniature Decorated Silver Binding – Central Europe, Probably Germany, 19th Century

Decorated silver binding. [Central Europe, probably Germany, 19th century].
Silver, pierced and engraved (unmarked); print on paper; leather and cardboard.
Miniature silver binding, bearing vegetal patterns. A rectangular frame is pierced in the middle of both the front and back boards, with, at its center, a large flower rising from a vase.
Book: Book of Psalms [unidentified edition, probably from Amsterdam, 18th century].

Binding: 9X5.5 cm. Thickness: 1.3 cm. Good condition. Four small holes are probably indicative of missing ornaments. Book: 61-135 leaves, 8.5 cm. Fair condition. Numerous stains and wear. Leather binding and endpapers dating from period of printing; book detached from binding. Ownership notation on front flyleaf handwritten by "Michael Ben Leib of Biebrich", Wiesbaden, Germany); notations listing births on rear flyleaf, dated Hebrew years 5557-60 (1796-1800).
